‘Legimitizing’ Hamas

Tzipi Livni says Israel can’t have a cease-fire with Hamas because that would “legitimize” the organization. Actually, Hamas’ legitimacy is beyond question, having been democratically elected to govern the Palestinians in 2006. And Israel knows it will eventually have to talk to the organization — indeed, it already has been; that’s why there was a cease-fire from June to December. If Israel was to confine its negotiation efforts to those it considers “legitimate,” it would have to negotiate a cease-fire with Abu Mazen. Which would be pointless, of course, because Abu Mazen has longsince retired from the business of confronting Israel. (Then again, rewind the clock 20 years, and Livni and her ilk were saying you couldn’t negotiate with Abu Mazen, either, because that would “legitimize” him…)

  1. Why does the US Govt buy into the media message (PR) put out by Israel without any attempt to analyse what they are saying and without any reference to the facts as we know them or to the likelihood that anyone will believe them? More and more Americans can detect Isreali generated propaganda when it is repeated by State Dept officials. The question is, Why do they do it? Don’t they realize that it is hurting their own credibility as well as the the possibility for real peace.

  2. The US and Canadian govermnents does not recognize Hamas as a legitimate democratic party but instead as a terrorist party. And they have shown their colors, for it was the contant bombing of the towns in Isreal that lead the Israeli people to respond in force, and they should have. They should not now agree to any ceasefire until Hamas agrees not to bomb Isreal…

It is Hamas who is causing such hardships for the Palastine people in Gaza. They use the civilians as human shields, and then when a civilian is killed they cry foul to the Israeli’s…

The citizens of Canada and US should show support to the Israeli’s….for if Hamas and others in that region had their way there would be another Holocaust…..and we as Canadians will never allow that….

Come on fellow Canadians, show your support for Israel…

  3. Philly boy-Hamas is the creation of Israel. Israel shed the blood out of which grew Hamas. Now Israel has tried to make life hell since Hamas were (DEMOCRATICALLY)elected Isreal broke the ceasefire on numerous occasions hamas retaliated exactly what the Israelis were wanting as an excuse to rage an all out bloody war. For goodness sake do your OWN research we are fed what they want us to eat there has been massacre after massacre which we all no breeds hatred everbody knows you tackle the root problem first before things escalate, for too long we have turned a blind eye to what the Israelis have been doing and have allowed it to escalate far far too long think of the images you have seen if that was your child, husband, son, mother, father… would you not feel anger, upset resentment we all cry out for justice these people never get justice lets hope this time they do
