My Favorite ‘Anti-Semite’

The utterly charming thing about the Zionist Thought Police is their apparent inability to restrain themselves, even from the very excesses that will prove to be their own undoing. Having asked sane and rational people to believe that Jimmy Carter is a Holocaust denier simply for pointing out the obvious about the apartheid regime Israel maintains in the occupied territories, the same crew now want us to believe that Archbishop Desmond Tutu is an anti-Semite. No jokes! That was the reason cited for Tutu being banned from speaking at St. Thomas University in Minneapolis. “We had heard some things he said that some people judged to be anti-Semitic and against Israeli policy,” explained university official Doug Hennes.

The “anti-Semitic” views Tutu had expressed were in his April 2002 speech “Occupation is Oppression” in which he likened the occupation regime in the West Bank, based on his personal experience of it, to what he had experienced as a black person in South Africa. He recalled the role of Jews in South Africa in the struggle to end apartheid, and expressed his solidarity with us through our centuries of suffering. But then turning to the suffering inflicted on the Palestinians, he issued an important challenge, one that might just as well have been uttered by a Jewish biblical prophet:

“My heart aches. I say, why are our memories so short? Have our Jewish sisters and brothers forgotten their humiliation? Have they forgotten the collective punishment, the home demolitions, in their own history so soon? Have they turned their backs on their profound and noble religious traditions? Have they forgotten that God cares deeply about the downtrodden?

“Israel will never get true security and safety through oppressing another people. A true peace can ultimately be built only on justice. We condemn the violence of suicide bombers, and we condemn the corruption of young minds taught hatred; but we also condemn the violence of military incursions in the occupied lands, and the inhumanity that won’t let ambulances reach the injured.

“The military action of recent days, I predict with certainty, will not provide the security and peace Israelis want; it will only intensify the hatred.

“Israel has three options: revert to the previous stalemated situation; exterminate all Palestinians; or – and I hope this will be the road taken – to strive for peace based on justice, based on withdrawal from all the occupied territories, and the establishment of a viable Palestinian state on those territories side by side with Israel, both with secure borders.

“We in South Africa had a relatively peaceful transition. If our madness could end as it did, it must be possible to do the same everywhere else in the world. South Africa is a beacon of hope for the rest of the world. If peace could come to South Africa, surely it can come to the Holy Land.”

Tutu is absolutely right, of course, nor would those Israelis who embody the same tradition of indivisible human rights that Tutu personifies disagree with him.

Frankly, this case I think this case underlines precisely how absurd the policing of discussion about Israel in the U.S. has become. As a South African veteran of the liberation struggle, I can testify that there are few, if any, more decent, humane, courageous and morally unimpeachable individuals in the world than Bishop Tutu. Speaking truth to power is what he’s always done, both to the old regime in South Africa as much as to the new, when the latter has failed to live up to the standards it professes on AIDS, crime and other issues.
He has spoken forcefully on human rights struggles around the world, and his statements about the West Bank are based on what he has seen there. The diminutive Bish is a moral giant of our times, and the fact that he is condemning Israel for maintaining an apartheid system on the West Bank should serve as a wake-up call to liberal Americans who prefer not to think about these things. Yes, of course Bishop Tutu makes people uncomfortable; that’s what he’s always done, like a good cleric, challenging his flock to consider their own actions and omissions against the morality they profess to embrace. Instead, thanks to the atmosphere created by the right-wing nationalists of AIPAC and the ADL etc., many mainstream institutions would now prefer to shoot the messenger, if only to avoid incurring the wrath of those who have stripped the very term “anti-Semitic” of its meaning (by using it as a bludgeon in defense of behavior utterly abhorrent in the Jewish tradition as much as anything else), and as such, commit a great crime against Jews and Judaism.

Not that Tutu would have been surprised by this clumsy attack on him. As he said in that Boston speech,

“But you know as well as I do that, somehow, the Israeli government is placed on a pedestal [in the U.S.], and to criticize it is to be immediately dubbed anti-Semitic, as if the Palestinians were not Semitic. I am not even anti-white, despite the madness of that group. And how did it come about that Israel was collaborating with the apartheid government on security measures?

“People are scared in this country [the U.S.] to say wrong is wrong because the Jewish lobby is powerful – very powerful. Well, so what? This is God’s world. For goodness sake, this is God’s world! We live in a moral universe. The apartheid government was very powerful, but today it no longer exists. Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Pinochet, Milosovic, and Idi Amin were all powerful, but in the end they bit the dust.

“Injustice and oppression will never prevail. Those who are powerful have to remember the litmus test that God gives to the powerful: What is your treatment of the poor, the hungry, the voiceless? And on the basis of that, God passes judgment.

“We should put out a clarion call to the government of the people of Israel, to the Palestinian people and say: peace is possible, peace based on justice is possible. We will do all we can to assist you to achieve this peace, because it is God’s dream, and you will be able to live amicably together as sisters and brothers.”

Tutu is challenging American institutions to put morality above the power of a lobby. (Yes, I know he called it “the Jewish lobby” and I don’t think of it as that; I think of it as a rightwing Likudnik lobby open to right-wing jingoists of every religious and ethnic stripe who share the Likudnik vision, but then again, I can understand Tutu’s confusion here, because it’s not as if any mainstream Jewish institutions have stepped forward and said no, these people who would suppress honest discussion of Israel speak only for themselves, not for the Jews…)

More power to him.

Postscript: Seems that even the likes of the ADL realize that when they’re seen to be trying to gag someone like Bishop Tutu, they’re destroying their own credibility in the eyes of many Jews. Not least in response to the efforts of the good people of Muzzlewatch, it seems that the university has reversed itself and restored Tutu’s invitation, with the support of even the ADL.

Good news Tony, Looks like St. Thomas has changed its mind and now decided to re-invite Archbishop Tutu. Check out Minneapolis Star Tribune.

However, its supposedly the forum will now be mediated by some Pro-Israel advocacy group. I have a bad feeling that they will launch an Alan Derhsowitz salvo on Mr. Tutu as opposed to having a reasoned academic debate with him

  2. Matthew, that was my feeling exactly (about it not being a reasoned academic debate now). The question is whether the Archbishop will forgive the university, turn the other cheek and take up the compromised invitation.

  3. Loch says:

I think that it is a good sign that Bishop Tutu has been allowed to speak at St. Thomas. If he speaks, and if the debate about Israel and the fate of the Palestinians is allowed to move forward in this country especially, then we will all be better off for it. An open and free discussion will accomplish what it has always accomplished- it will reveal the dark side in us all, and that dark side, once revealed, will be effectively neutralized. An open debate, more than anything, will move the world closer to a comprehensive solution to the issues affecting the Israeli and Palestinian people.

The truth is that we are all racist. We are all afraid of the Other, we all want to garner the preponderance of power to ourselves. We all want slaves to do our bidding, we all want to marginalize others in order to boost our own sense of ego ascendancy. This is the dark side in all of us. I suspect that certain Zionist groups in America, the “Zionist lobby” have so identified with the status of victim (of the Holocaust) that they have forgotten that a history of persecution does not remove the darkness from our hearts. Alas, all of us are human beings. It is a truism that a victim identity always helps to shield us from our own excesses. I will allow others to draw the obvious historical parallels for themselves.

An open debate opens the door to rabid and ill-conceived rants, full of hate and unpleasant to digest. But such darkness, brought out into the light, allows us all to see it for what it is. Criticism of the policies of Israel vis a vis
the Palestinians will necessarily include comments from men such as Mr. Ahmadenijad, which are inflammatory and unhelpful. But such a dialogue will also include comments form men such as Desmond Tutu and Jimmy Carter, and we must keep our faith in the resonableness of hunmankind to be able to filter it all out.

The danger with the current gag on Iraeli/Palestinian debate in the US is that men such as Ahmadinejad are able to make their point, and men such as Bishop Tutu are not. The dangerous irony is that this current state of affairs actually breeds more anti-Semitism and more darkness in the mind of the average American.

Of course, it is to the advantage of the current Administration for Zionist groups to gag the media and the scope of debate, for such a gag prevents the populace from seeing the entire picture, and allows Bush/Cheny greater freedom to adventure at will across the middle east.

  4. Shane Mage says:

“Chosen People” is a term that, I
    have concluded, virtually nobody
    understands. Some say it claims
Jewish superiority and entitlement, some that it signifies a duty for Jews to be moral exemplars for humanity, some that it is the condemnation of the Jews to be “Suffering Servants” of an incomprehensible deity for some equally incomprehensible divine purpose. But if one looks at the
    central and originating Jewish
experience, the Exodus from Egypt, a very different meaning emerges.

To see this, just read the book of
Exodus as a basically accurate historical account. What we see
is a terrible catastrophe of worldwide dimension, devastating
to all nations and peoples. But
    where other peoples trtansformed
the experience into myth and legend, gradually allowing terrible memories to recede into their collective unconscious, the Jews
kept it alive in the Book and above all in the ritual remembrance of the
Passover. And this is what the Jews were *chosen* to do–to preserve the memory of the catastrophe in a form that would keep it accessible to consciousness until, one day, its real natural causation (which Plato adumbrated in the discussion preliminary to the Atlantis myth in the Timaeus) could be understood and reintegrated into a human psyche healed of our collective post-traumatic-stress disorder.

And from this emerges a different understanding of the deep unconscious roots of the pathology called antisemitism:
    Jews are unconsciously resented
(only, of course, by peoples aware of Judaism because steeped in the monotheistic Christian and Islamic cultures that deviated from Judaism) as those
who celebrate what for others (but of course for themselves as well) was an unbearably painful trauma
and thus, by their very existence,
activate the painful psychic consequences of that long-buried trauma.

Incidentally, this perspective gives a rather different meaning to Karl Marx’s famous phrase “the real emancipation of the Jews is the
emancipation of [Western] society from Judaism.”

  5. Shlomo says:

    Shane,

Very interesting sociological discourse. But clearly, you have absolutely no idea what the Torah means or how it has been consistently interpreted for the past 2000 years.

When we talk about the Exodus, we should begin with how the Jews ended up in Egypt. Joseph was sold by his brothers as a slave, and was later imprisoned in Egypt. But when it was discoverd he had prophetic powers, he was made Pharoah’s second in command. Joseph foresaw that there would be seven years of bountiful harvests, and then a devastating famine. But he WARNED PHAROAH, who then stored grain during the bountiful years, and in this way SINGLEHANDEDLY PREVENTED A DEVASTATING FAMINE.

But when the next king took over, he did not hold the old king’s loyalty’s to Joseph, and was beginning to view Jews as a “fifth column” because of their distinctive monotheism. So he enslaved them, and tried to kill them all. Centuries later, a man named Moses arose and brought the Jews out of Egypt. It is true that God made sure Egypt would be destoroyed as a “sign for all nations”; but he also forbade the Jews to celebrate Egypt’s destruction. The main focus was not celebrating others’ defeats. It was just that Jews were happy God had saved us.

Have you ever gone to a passover Seder? I’ve gone to nineteen. There is hardly a goating attitude towards Egypt’s destruction. Actually, when the Ten Plagues are listed, there is a widely-held custom to spill win with each plague in mourning for our enemies’ suffering. “Seder” literally means “order”, and there is a very specific set of songs, prayers, and stories that are told worldwide. Everyone in the world does this.

Honestly, I found your little discourse insulting. Usually when I’m rebutting this type of uninformed, drive-by pseudosociology, I’m up against someone who thinks all Arabs are savages and all Moslems are terrorists.

  6. Shane Mage says:

Shlomo, when I discuss history and its depth-psychological sequelae, you see “sociology.” When I discuss the
basically historical account provided by Exodus, you respond
with the tribal legends of Genesis. When I see the destruction of Egypt as part of a worldwide catastrophe, you
describe it as the work of a supernatural person named “God.” Fine for you, but I stay with Spinoza, *deus sive natura*.

  7. Shlomo says:

I don’t understand how you came to any of your conclusions? Did you get bored one day, type “Exodus” into Wikipedia, and do a few minutes’ reading? The Torah is about more than remembering others’ catastrophes. You might want to take a look sometime.

By the way, the basic premise of your post (from what I could gather) is delirious. Do you really think Jews invented the zero-sum mentality? Or do you think they were the first nation to commemorate great victories over their enemies? Why is it that only when Jews do such things are “painful traumas” activated across the world?

  8. Shane Mage says:

Shlomo, you puzzle me. First you
say that “the destruction of Egypt”
was the work of “God.” Now you
call it our “great victory” over our “enemies.” Is “God” another word for a Weapon of Mass Destruction?

  9. Abdul Gani says:

    Way OT, sorry…

Ed said “As for white South Africans leaving the country, you will find that a lot of them are actually disappointed by the lack of action on the issue of crime that specifically targets white people. ”

What rubbish! Crime is a problem that affects ALL race groups in South Africa. I have been a victim. Many people I know have been victims. And everyone I meet has tales of close friends and relatives’ experiences with crime (if I wanted to hear those tales. Mostly I don’t)

What is evident is that crime against White South Africans is still considered to be crime. Whilst that against non-Whites is ignored or under-reported.

South Africa is NOT a harmonious country. And recently White South Africa has been flexing it’s muscles. The personal attacks against the President and the Cabinet. The increasingly racist letters and SMS’s to the editor. The strident tones of the editorial pages. The belief that only they are affected by crime….

  10. Jan Jansen says:

    Reciprocity?

An Anglican Archbishop was to address an audience at a Roman Catholic university, both Christian groups.

The invitation to speak was withdrawn because it offended members of a different religious group?

Which other religions think that they have the right to prevent other people from talking to their co-religionists?

    Jan

  11. Shane Mage says:

    Jan asks:
“Which other religions think that they have the right to prevent other people from talking to their co-religionists?”

The Greek Orthodox Church does everything in its power to
prevent worshippers of the Olympian Gods from talking to
their co-religionists. The Wahhabi rulers of Saudi Arabia
prevent adherents of *all* other sects and religions from
    talking to their co-religionists.

  26. NaziIsrael says:

I am going to use an analogy to explain what the Jews have done to America. If you take the water in the toilet bowl after a really fat guy takes a shit (after holding it in for 3 days) and the water is left in a bucket for a week in the hot summer sun. Then the water is drained away and what you have left is the Jewish human equivalent in America.
They caused 9/11 ( because of theirwar crimes and treatment of innocent Palestinians) they have fractured our society by forcing races to co-exist by leading the Civil Rights movement (a completely failed social experiment – you only have to look at the disproportionate savage black and Latino crime statistics ) and they have led our country into financial chaos (with Goldman and the filthy Jew bankers leading the way)and they have taken our country to war with Israels enemy Iraq..killing over 4000 of our finest fighting men and women and maiming another 15,000 at unbelievable human cost. The war is going to end up costing taxpayers over ONE FUCKING TRILLION DOLLARS, led by the Zionist NeoCon crime bosses..Then the filthy fucking treasonous Jew hooknose filth Wolfowitz told the American people that it would cost around ten billion dollars and that the cost would be offset by oil sales after the war.
He did such a great job at calculating the cost of the war.(.hey, he was only off by 99.9%) that George the Moron Bush secured him a job to head up the IMF…and of course he got his cock in a ringer when they found out that he had put his cuntbag Yenta bitch girlfriend (of course, another fucking filthy jewes)and he had to step down…But is fucking the Goyim out of money somewhere else..
I mean how can anyone argue that the Jews are NOT the most evil fucking race ever? The evidence to support that assumption is OVERWHELMING..YOU CAN’T AVOID IT..EVEN IF YOU GODAMN try.
Every day the mainstream media (led by the ultimate fucking Liberals at CNN) parade endless Jewish talking heads that are fronted as “experts” on every subject and are really just Hooknose Heebs put in a chair to push the Israeli opinion and to promote the fucking “certifiably insane” Liberal Jews led by the other fucking criminals Pelosi, Reid, Barney Fag,Barbara Boxer, Shumer and on, and on, and fucking on. The list reads like a Jewish wedding list..for chrissake..
And of course the fucking ADL led by that fucking filth ABE “THE BIGGEST PHONY FUCK” Foxman that heads up an organization that takes pride in shaking down Governments and extorts money behind “Holocaust” guilt by warning them that if they don’t pay..he will have to brand their entire society ANTI SEMITES. Most eastern European countries don’t want the attention linking them to the “holocaust” (and unjustified) bad press, so they pay that fat evil filthy jew “hush filthy money” and he gets a police escort back to the airport and moves on to the next country to exort more money from. The movie “Defamation” reveals the whole filthy Jew plot of the ADL and there real motive..and it has nothing to do with persuing hate crimes..because there are no fucking hate crimes against Jews any more. Thousands of whites get killed, maimed and fucking raped by savage blacks and illegal Latinos but, because they are WHITE people the ADL is nowhere to be godamn found..BUT,AND THIS IS A BIIIGG BUUT, if some drunk fucking draws a tiny swastika on the door of a Synagogue, the Jew controlled fucking filthy media act like the entire godamn Jewish race is on the verge of another ‘Holocaust” and every law enforcement agency is scrambled to track down the evil “terrorist attack” and the whole community is “guilted” into finding out who these people are, and the Muslims are rounded up like cattle.
It usually turns out to be another Jew that just want to keep “branding” the WW2 Nazis and keep the “holocaust” on peoples minds..at any cost..including creating the events themselves..like I said, these are fucking EVIL people..
And Jews wonder why people in countless countries have persecuted them over the course of history. The only surprise that I have is that they were allowed to live in those countries for as long as they were..I mean look at the damage done to America by them..why do WE continue to put up with there evil behavior and ruination of our country??
And, of course I will be called an anti semite and I have to admit..I like being called an anti semite..what it shows is that I am educated about what the Jews are all about,
So, I wear my anti semitism PROUDLY..Hell, I might even get a Star of David tattooed around my asshole..a great place for it, don’t u think?
Jews think that they are invincible.
The Romans and the Nazis thought so too. And we know how that ended.
Maybe we will be blessed with another great leader that will put the Jews back into there place..it is high time that it happened.

    Peace..
