I think the photo with Sarkozy and Olmert says it all. You oftne see pictures of Abbas with Olmert smiling down at him and patting him on the back like he was a kid allowed to have his picture taken with the local MP on a schol trip to parliament.

And if you have the background knowledge then you may very well be simply reading your own biases into the photos.
